Denise Miller
« 2016 Rattle Chapbook Prize Selection »
Ligatures reveals the honesty and depth that is lost in the media that reports on murders of black people by police. Using first-hand accounts, as reported, Denise Miller forces us to closely examine our perception of American dogma and it’s reality. What we see in ourselves and in others and what we want to see for our own comfort. Questioning our own values and hypocrisy. Coming from multiple angles these poems affirm the passive collective blind unjustifiable wrong across the nation. Readers will feel these lives, love them and hurt for them and ponder the destiny of justice.
